Day 7 - Another #$%^ing fracture?

Call me paranoid, but I am the queen of injuries with running.  2 fractures and plantar fasciitis in the last 4 years.

The last couple of weeks my foot has been hurting, not a lot and not really when I walk or run but I notice the stiffness and slight pain when I wake up in the morning. By the middle of the day I have forgotten about it....

But today I have become paranoid and am convinced (well I have gone back and forth several times) that my foot is fractured. I should probably go to the doctor but I am not in any real pain yet.  So stubborn.

At any rate, to be safe I biked today on the stationary and will bike the next couple of days. Let's see if this helps.  If pain continues this week, I promise Friday I will head to the doctor.  Bah!

Day 5 - The Dreadmill

Found my moment to train while the fam went to family karate class. Again, I knew it wouldn't be long so I cranked it and averaged under 10 min mile the whole time. I really want to make this a habit (the speed that is)

I did the run on the dreadmill.  I know a lot of people dislike the treadmill and would prefer an outdoor run. Who wouldn't!  But if not going for a run is the alternative, then I am running on the treadmill!

So instead I embrace the treadmill and see this time on it as limited but good since I can amuse myself by playing with the speeds or the inclines.

Another advantage? I get to talk and coo at my baby while I run. Some may think it selfish to run and not give full attention to my baby while he is awake. But instead I put him on a playmate just in front of me and he intently looks at me and then at the dangling objects, then at me again, while I say "hi" and coo and act like an idiot while I am prancing on the dreadmill.

I hope that his young self sees his mom as an inspiration! If he can even see me that far :)

Day 3

Crazy day Day 3 was. PA Day at school meaning I had kids home and a crankster baby.  But I was determined.

Because I had a planned a girls night out, the spouse took the kiddies to Mickey D's (don't judge :p) for dinner. They left about 45 mins before I was suppose to go out, so guess what? I changed as fast as I could and got on the treadmill.

I did a fast 2.3 miles. Fast for me is anything less than a 12 min mile (that's what I have been averaging since the baby, mostly because of my enormous jugs :)

Anyhow I averaged something like a 9'20 mile.

One thing I realized when time is not on your side, just go FAST. You know you won't be doing it for long so the pain won't last.  So I am going to start making the short runs my speed work. Brilliant!

Tri-ing my first post

Well this week my 3rd child has turned 7 weeks old. They say the first 6 weeks after having a baby is the hardest as your body is still trying to get back to "normal".

I started light running at week 2. Maybe averaging running from 2-5 times a week. Mind you I was only doing about 1-2.5 miles.

For motivation, I decided to participate in the Santa Shuffle, a 5k fun run.  I wouldn't say it was hard, but it sure wasn't easy either and I had to push myself. I did it in 31 minutes. Not bad I guess for having a baby just 6 weeks prior.

Now that I am past the 6 week point I really want to push my body and see what it can do.

I used to do Triathlons when I was younger and I want to do them again. I have been racing half marathons and trained for a full the last 3 years, but all the running tends to just get me injured :s

Triathlons, being made up of 3 sports and not as concentrated tend to be less tough on the body.

Now finding the time to train and race these tri's is NOT going to be easy.   I have 3 kids after all, ages 7 weeks, 5 years and 7 years.

Today I tried running, but only got 1.9 miles in because the baby started to scream. Some days are going to be like that. Some days I may have to try and fit in a couple of workouts when I get the chance 10 mins here, 10 mins there. Whatever it takes I am going to do it.  I hope writing this blog keeps me motivated and committed :).

Here we go! Yesterday was Triathlon training Day 1. I did 40 mins of biking. I wanted to do 60, but my little bundle had other plans.
Today was Day 2, and as mentioned I didn't quite get to 2 miles.

Tomorrow is a PA day and I'll all three kids. I may go nuts, but it would be great if I could get a workout in while going insane :)
